When people ask me what I do for a living, I always give them the simplest truth possible I protect lives before danger even shows up. That’s the heart of what fire alarm systems do, and it’s exactly what I’ve been committed to since the late 90s.
But the journey here wasn’t planned. It wasn’t predictable. And I definitely didn’t know how life-changing it would be when it began.
Back in 1998 or 1999, I was working for RCN in Lower Manhattan, running cable, telephone lines, and internet connections. Fire alarms weren’t even on my radar. Then I got hired on the spot by a company called Fire Quench. And just like that, my world shifted.
I had no idea what I was walking into. The fire alarm industry felt like a maze: DC circuits, resistors, zone modules, system cards, giant Edwards panels that took up entire walls. Everything was intricate and everything felt brand new. But even in the confusion, something clicked for me. This industry wasn’t just technical. It was challenging. It was layered. It required real thinking. And I fell in love with it almost immediately.
Coming up in this field wasn’t easy. The older techs weren’t exactly eager to share information. Whether it was ego, job protection, insecurity, or just bad energy who knows but knowledge was treated like something to hide, not something to pass on. And I never understood that.
That mindset is why I decided to do something radically different. It’s why Secure It Securities now has a 100% free, forever fire alarm training center. If I know it, you’ll know it. If I can get my hands on a panel, I’ll teach you how to program it. Because this industry shouldn’t be built on secrets it should be built on skill.
As I grew, trained, and gained certifications with different manufacturers, I became more valuable. Not because I was special, but because I invested in myself. Once I understood that companies needed my expertise, my confidence and my approach changed. I worked with integrity, I stayed teachable, and I kept a calm, positive mindset but I always knew my worth. If something wasn’t right, I spoke up. If it didn’t change, I moved on. That principle alone elevated my entire career.
When I started Secure It Securities, the mission was simple:
I won’t sugarcoat it. Running this business alone, especially in the early days, was tough. The deposits from six-figure projects had to stretch across months. Marketing, installation, engineering, proposals, and project management were all on my shoulders.
But with discipline, mindset, and belief in my mission, I scaled to half a million even three-quarters of a million in revenue as a solo entrepreneur. Now, with a growing team, I’m multiplying that impact.
I didn’t create this business to just install systems. I created it to open doors for others especially young technicians who want to level up but don’t know where to start.
You can build a career in this industry, You can build a company in this industry, You can build a life in this industry. Whether you want to handle inspections, monitoring, cameras, access control, or full installations you can make it here if you’re willing to learn and stay committed to the long game. And you’ll never have to learn alone.
Clarity is power. When you can explain what you do in one sentence, people remember you.
If you’re ready to transform your skills, your mindset, and your future, stay connected, follow the podcast, and plug into the Blueprint.
This is your moment to go from technician to CEO just like I did.
