How I Learned to Be Myself on Camera (and How It Built My Fire Alarm Business)

When people told me to “just be authentic,” I never really understood what that meant. It sounded like one of those buzzwords everyone throws around but nobody explains.

It took me years to realize that authenticity is just showing up as you are. The way you work, the way you talk, the way you solve problems that’s the real you. And when you bring that into your videos, into your brand, people connect with it.

For me, that was tough at first. Even though I’ve been installing fire alarm systems for over 20 years, I still wrestled with imposter syndrome. Every time I hit record, I’d wonder: What if somebody says it better? What if I get something wrong? The truth is, I knew my stuff. I’m certified on systems like Simplex, Edwards, Software House, Kidde. I’ve worked for some of the biggest fire alarm companies since 1999. But the nerves were still there.

What changed everything was courage and to make the decision to show up anyway. Not to prove I was better than anyone else, but to share what I knew in hopes it would make the path easier for someone coming up behind me. That mindset shift freed me. I didn’t need to be perfect. I just needed to be me.

That same approach has carried me through business. In 2017, I launched Secure It Securities Corp. Since then, we’ve done over $5 million in fire alarm and security installations across government, private, and commercial projects. None of that happened overnight. It was years of showing up, putting in the work, and staying consistent.

And that’s why I built the Fire Alarm Business Blueprint. It’s not about hype or shortcuts. It’s about giving you a clear path to start, run, and grow your own fire alarm company taught by someone who’s lived it, struggled with it, and figured it out.

If you’ve ever felt those same doubts or jitters when stepping into something bigger, know this: you’re not alone. You don’t need to fake it. You don’t need to wait until you feel ready. You just need to start.
